Deal, professor of French & Spanish & head of the Foreign Language Department at East Carolina Teachers College, 1924-1945, including family photographs, World War II correspondence with her brother, Newton Harvey Deal, & other family papers, including bills & receipts, clippings, correspondence, ephemera, genealogical sketches, manuscript volumes, photographic prints & negatives, printed materials, & oversized materials, etc. See preliminary inventory attached. In English & French language. Purchased. 6 boxes & 2 oversized folders. 1,779 items. 2,630 p. (ca. 3.25 cubic feet) Recd. 11/22/2008. Note: A librarian Mr. Newton Harvey Deal was a graduate of E.C.T.C. & Peabody College for Teachers. He served as a reference librarian at University of Virginia, 1951-1965; he was assistant director of libraries at the University of Cincinnati, 1965-1968; & director of libraries at Virginia Commonwealth University, 1968 until his death in 1970. Mr. Scott Power purchased the photographs in #1147.1.j & #1147.6.os.1.1-1.2 at the same auction & donated them to East Carolina University. Mr. Power waived receipts & contracts. Purchase (Special Manuscript Fund), Woodside Antiques & Auction Gallery; Gift of Mr. Scott Power.
