Biographical/historical information

Lenoir County, formerly the southern portion of Dobbs County, was established in 1791. The county was named after William Lenoir, an American Revolutionary War officer who was serving as the Speaker of the North Carolina Senate at the time of the county's establishment. Lenoir County is situated on the Neuse River and its county seat is the city of Kinston.
