| Abstract: | The collection includes correspondence, printed materials, photographs, grade reports, teaching certificates and testimonials, legal documents and newspaper clippings which document the life (1891-1975) of Lenoir County, North Carolina, school teacher Julia Catherine McDaniel including her education at Hollins Institute in Virginia and her teaching career (1912-1960) in Burlington, Bethel, and Lenoir County, N.C., schools. The collection also touches on the lives of her friends, classmates, colleagues, and students and includes materials concerning the McDaniel, Harvey, Linton and related families of Kinston and Eastern North Carolina. |

August 1, 2007, (unprocessed) 2476 items, 8.50 cubic feet; Collection (1882-1977, undated [Bulk: 1909-1975]) including correspondence, broadsides, printed forms, brochures & programs, ephemera, photographic prints, music, pamphlets, periodicals & oversized materials, relating to beloved elementary school teacher "Miss Kate" McDaniel, 1891-1975, and the McDaniel, Harvey, Linton and related families of Kinston and Eastern North Carolina; her education at Hollins College, near Roanoke, Virginia; her career teaching Latin, English, and History first in Burlington and Bethel, then in La Grange, Kinston, Contentnea, and Southwood elementary schools, in Lenoir County, NC, 1924-1960; also, her friends, classmates, colleagues, students, her finances and health, and her social, cultural and religious interests.
