The Cape Lookout Yacht Club was founded in July 2003 over drinks at the D27 District Rendezvous in Wilmington, North Carolina. The founding members started the club as a way to enjoy boating, nature, and socializing through cruises, picnics, and dinners. Additional goals included enhancing seamanship and boating skills and promoting the preservation of Cape Lookout Lighthouse at Cape Lookout National Seashore in Carteret County, NC.
The correspondence (2003-2005) mainly deals with the club founding, club administration and arrangement of club events. The founding documents include a charter and mission statement outlining club governance, membership policies, as well as documented official club dress, colors, logo, drinks and hymn. Also included are various proposed club logos and the chosen logo. Included in the financial records are receipts from the purchase of various club-related items. Membership records consist of copies of membership applications and a membership roster. There are a few club-related newsletters and magazine articles and a few photographs of club members. The ephemera consists of a club license plate.
