Biographical/historical information

The Rives, Wiggins, and related families were from the North Carolina counties of Halifax, Edgecombe, Martin and Pitt. John Lawrence Wiggins married Octavia Josephine Nettles in 1867. Peter Richard Rives married Mary L. Worsley in 1874. Fred Lawrence Wiggins married Mary Louise Rives in 1900. Mary Earl Wiggins Nettles was this couple's daughter. Mary Earle Stallings, the donor of the collection, was the daughter of Mary Earl Wiggins Nettles.


Scope and arrangement

The collection consists of three sets of family Bible records containing births, marriages and deaths. These include the records of the Peter Richard Rives Family (Pitt and Halifax Counties, NC) dating from 1874-1978, the John Lawrence Wiggins Family (Edgecombe County, NC) dating from 1867-1947 and the Fred L. Wiggins Family (Pitt, Edgecombe and Martin Counties, NC) dating from 1855-1933. Photographic images include a photograph of Mary Earl Wiggins Nettles. Also included is a photograph postcard (back blank) advertising free concerts nightly at Bell's Sons Jewelers, Tarboro, NC.
