Lt. Joyce Shotwell, Lt. Carol Ramsey and Lt. Deborah Loewer all served as female officers onboard the US Navy ship USS YOSEMITE (AD-19). Shotwell received the US Navy Commendation Medal.
This collection contains 2 photocopied newspaper clippings. The first clipping is an interview with Lt. Joyce Shotwell, Lt. Carol Ramsey, and Lt. Deborah Loewer about their experiences as female officers onboard the US Navy ship USS YOSEMITE (AD-19). The second clipping is an announcement of Lt. Joyce M. Shotwell’s award ceremony where she received the US Navy Commendation Medal. Also included in the collection is the original commendation certificate, medal, letters of endorsement and citations. There are three black and white photographic headshots of Lt. Joyce M. Shotwell in uniform, one color photo of Lt. Shotwell in civilian attire posed in front of the USS YOSEMITE (AD-19) and three small black and white photos of Lt. Shotwell receiving her medal at the award ceremony, accompanied by a Capt. Palumbo and one unidentified male officer. Also included is Shotwell’s 1960s grade school autograph book signed by friends and teachers.
