Tony N. Forbes (1873-1911), a Negro resident of Greenville, N.C., married Hattie Forbes (1873-1928) in 1894. The Forbeses, who were not related, were the parents of the donor.
The collection contains correspondence written by Tony N. Forbes to Miss Hattie Forbes, between May, 1891, and December, 1893. The letters are concerned primarily with personal matters and include a proposal of marriage. Also included in the collection are four pages from a family Bible, which note the birth, marriage, and death dates of Tony and Hattie Forbes.
