Abstract:
The present-day village of Sneads Ferry gets its name from the ferry crossing first used before the Revolutionary War. In 1760, Robert Snead operated a tavern on the south shore of the New River. Presently, the entire southern shore of the New River, from the old ferry crossing to the mouth of the river, is known as Sneads Ferry.
