Abstract:
The northern pine snake's habitat today is limited to the North Carolina Sandhills and New Jersey, with a small population in the Virginia mountains. In the Sandhills the snake has adapted to live in a nutrient-poor, fire-dependent habitats, but its numbers are dwindling. Researchers are studying why this decline is happening and what can be done to reverse it.
