"Born in a private Charlotte kitchen in 1941, the vegetable sandwich was all the rage by the 1960s. And then it vanished.". Charlotte's special sandwiches are distinguished as made only using gelatin and mayonnaise. Dot Thompson is credited for inventing Charlotte's specific sandwich, as relayed in a 1979 news article.
