Abstract:
Tom Peacock of Hamlet built the state's first alligator farm in 1997. Hatchlings cost $35 and take three years to mature. A market-ready alligator sells for around $240. Peacock got the idea when a friend needed a way to dispose of dead chickens on his poultry farm.
