On Sept. 25, 1782, George Turnage, his wife, and his mother-in-law, Catherine Butler, were attacked in Pitt County by John Stancell, James Barfield and William Skinner, Jr., “idlers”, of Dobbs Co., NC. Found in the New Bern District Civil Action Papers, NC Archives.
