Abstract:
North Carolina is among the more generous states in charitable giving, ranking 10th nationally in percentage of income given--5.9 percent when compared with the national average of 4.7 percent. A 2008 study (the most recent available) conducted by The Chronicle of Philanthropy revealed that the middle class gives a higher income percentage than the upper income class--this holds true for NC also. This article includes a state map by regions, a chart of charitable giving amounts by counties, and an index of the income percentage given in each of the state's 100 counties.
