Tar, Slaves, and New England Rum: The Trade of Aaron Lopez of Newport, Rhode Island, with Colonial North Carolina

Abstract:
This article seeks to build upon previous historians' work on the history of commercial shipping activities in North Carolina including the naval stores trade, provisions trade, lumber products shipping, and tobacco exportation. The author examines the Aaron Lopez papers who was a Rhode Island merchant actively involved in dispatching at least 37 voyages to North Carolina between 1761 and 1775.
