Seymour Johnson Field

Abstract:
Seymour Johnson Field, located near Goldsboro, was named in honor of Lt. Seymour Johnson, of Goldsboro, who was killed in 1941 while test piloting a Navy plane. The field was established for the purpose of operating an airplane mechanics school for the Army Air Forces Technical Training Command. General Walter J. Reed was the commanding officer during this period.
