Abstract:
Ben Bracy organized groups of underprivileged young men unable to afford fees charged by the Boy Scouts. Bracy directed the boys' energies to create \"The Scout Lake,\" a recreational area for the boys and Scotland Neck citizens. Members of the group constructed the dam and then pavilions for picnicking families and were required to manage the park during its operation from April to October. Bracy's efforts were lauded for promoting a sense of community service and detracting from juvenile delinquency.
