Abstract:
Jim Baughman was a native of Washington and a member of Lafayette Escadrille. Two other North Carolinians, Kiffin Rockwell of Asheville and James Roger McConnell of Carthage, also served in this French air squadron during World War I. The Lafayette Escadrille distinguished American pilots who volunteered to served in the French Air Force during World War I. In all, 209 Americans flew and 67 lost their lives, including all three North Carolinians.
