Abstract:
Dr. J. S. Dorton was a veterinarian and somewhat of a North Carolina celebrity. He organized local, county, and state fairs within North Carolina, which he was apt to do because of his natural flair for showmanship. His efforts extended beyond entertainment to transform the state into an agricultural competitor within the United States.
