Abstract:
In the early years of 1800 Captain Samuel Pointer, a Virginian, entertained a traveling merchant from India. This stranger expressed his gratitude with a parting gift to Captain Pointer. Now this celebrated \"India Madstone\" is again changing hands; the only surviving daughter of Captain Pointer is giving this family relic to the medical department of the University of North Carolina.
