Abstract:
One of the largest black-owned commercial buildings in the South now stands on what was once a black ghetto in Charlotte. East Independence Plaza, which was built at a cost of $3.5 million, stands seven stories tall, has solar glass walls on four of its eight sides, and contains 85,000-square-feet of rental space.
