Abstract:
Possibly the most neglected historic structures in North Carolina are the old covered bridges. Out of more than 100 of these roofed spans, the count has dwindled to three former county road bridges and one almost unnoticed combination covered bridge-grist mill. Randolph County had the most covered bridges, accounting for 50 of the 97 catalogued so far.
