Digging for Old Covered Bridges

Author(s):
Abstract:
North Carolina's number one covered bridge fan is a transplanted Vermonter. Artist Betty Gallup noticed the dearth of research on covered bridges when she moved to North Carolina and set out to fill the gap. She joined forces with the Randolph County Historical Society and started a complete compilation of North Carolina's former and existing covered bridges, listing and describing them by county, making pen and ink drawings when old photos or adequate descriptions were found. So far she has located 97 bridges in 26 counties and has produced pictures of 70.
