The late Lloyd E. Griffin, former schoolteacher; Harvard Law School graduate; state senator, who, with a small group of senators, saved the North Carolina public schools in 1933; and a founding member of the North Carolina Citizens Association, an organization which he led for twenty-five years, is remembered in this editorial.

With the establishment of the North Carolina Film Office in 1980, the state has risen in seven short years from virtual obscurity to become one of the top states for moviemaking in the country. Thousands of jobs have been created and an estimated $921.4 million has boosted the economy.
