Abstract:

John W. Pope went into business with five small variety stores and built it into a chain of 326 stores under the name of Variety Wholesalers, Inc. Pope is President, Chairman and CEO of the Raleigh-based company. Stores operating under the Variety banner include Pope, Eagle, United, Value Mart, and Super-Dollar Stores.
