Abstract:
The Chattahooga River, which runs through western portion of our state, is apt to become much more familiar to North Carolinians through its projected inclusion by Congress in a system of National Wild and Scenic Rivers. The system will be modeled on the current network of national parks and national historic monuments with which many North Carolinians are familiar. Governors of the four states through which the river runs have given their public support for the river's inclusion, as have representatives from many outdoorsmen's organizations.

Vance and Thomas J. Jarvis both gave testimonials that appeared in paid advertisements in the Raleigh NEWS AND OBSERVER praising the quality of brandy produced by Pitt County distiller R. A. Bynum.

Abstract:
In the late 19th-century, a number of barnstorming aeronautical groups were touring North Carolina, thrilling great crowds by rising to unbelievable heights in hot air balloons and parachuting down from as high as 8,000 feet. On August 12, 1892, Madame Leona O'Dell, Mademoiselle Dot Zelno, and their dog Gyp, of the Grace Shannon Balloon Company, soared over Wrightsville Beach suspended beneath a single unmanned balloon to heights of 8,000, 4500, and 3,000 feet, respectively, before cutting themselves free and descending under pre-opened but unribbed parachutes.
