Abstract:
June German referred to an organized dance which coincided with the Rocky Mount fair. Thomas H. Battle and Dr. M. R. Braswell organized the first June German in the 1880s. The Rocky Mount event started as a fall tradition but the date was later moved from October to June.

Charles Eden was Governor the North Carolina colony under the Lords Proprietors and the town of Edenton is named for him. His term in office is best remembered for the activities of pirates, especially Blackbeard.
