In this continuing series of biographical sketches of members of the state legislature, Lucas discusses Claude Carl Cannady, of Benson, who served in the 1927 and 1929 terms of the North Carolina Senate. He is running in the November election for the position of solicitor of the Fourth Judicial District.

William Gaston is one of North Carolina's greatest citizens. Lawyer, legislator, congressman, and judge, he wrote the words for \"The Old North State\", which, since 1927, has been North Carolina's official state song.
