Abstract:
There are 78 sculptures scattered throughout Caldwell County and Lenoir, a city of 18,000. The Caldwell Arts Council began collecting in 1985. Soon a new activity began--the Sculpture Celebration--which has become the longest running sculpture event in the Southeast. Each year sculptors from around the nation come to Lenoir to compete. This year's sculpture winner was internationally-known sculptor Thomas Sayre.

Abstract:
Two of the state's most dedicated public servants who have over thirty years of outstanding service--Bill Hughes, the Mayor of Murphy, and former Councilmember Chris Jones of Clemmons, received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. The award is for North Carolinians who served the state enthusiastically through their careers and communities. Jones was awarded his posthumously.
