Conover and Wilmington were named winners of the Susan M. Burgess Sustainability Awards. The award, which was established in 2010, is an annual award recognizing efforts to lessen the environmental impact of municipal operations and to promote and encourage sustainability throughout the community.

Angela Stadler, municipal clerk for Reidsville, is the recipient of the N.C. Association of Municipal Clerks' inaugural Clerk of the Year Award.
