Abstract:
Forty years ago, William S. Powell published the North Carolina Gazetteer, a listing of about 19,000 place names in the state. Recently Michael Hill, research supervisor at the North Carolina Office of Archives and History, was assigned the task of updating the book by adding 2,000 more entries. The second edition was released in 2010.

Abstract:
The Municipal Administration course is offered by the Institute of Government at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to municipal managers, department heads, and other officials. At the close of instruction, class members vote anonymously for the student who best meets the criteria for the George Franklin Award. Franklin was a former counsel for the N.C. League of Municipalities. Stevie Cox, Toen Manager for Chadbourn, received the award in 2010. Blair Barton-Percival, assistant director of the Area Agency on Aging for the Piedmont Triad Council of Governments, received the Edwin M. Gill Award.
