Facing the increase in the number of drivers on North Carolina roads, the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles conducted a study comparing drivers involved in fatal accidents and those chosen at random. This study helps the Department determine the causes behind fatal accidents and ways to prevent them.

An issue facing growing North Carolina cities is \"downtown disease\" which sees the decline of downtown areas as cities grow on the fringe. Although many small towns are succumbing to this \"disease,\" Mooresville is fighting back by redesigning and re-utilizing their business district.

A major milestone on the path toward simplified building regulations for North Carolina was passed when the newly organized Building Code Council published the 1958 North Carolina State Building Code. For the first time, citizens may now find under one cover the applicable state laws and regulations governing building construction.
