Half of the over 100,000 gas stations in the U.S. use pumps manufactured by the Gilbarco Company in Greensboro. Recently Gilbarco introduced a new pump that will accept cash or credit cards, monitor underground tanks for leaks, and recover fuel vapors.

The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has expanded markets in Mexico for such North Carolina products as textiles and furniture. In the past five years, the state's exports to Mexico have quadrupled to over $440 million.
