The Martinganza Horse Show, held at the Senator Bob Martin Eastern Agricultural Center near Williamston in Martin County, is in its fifth year. Martinganza is a non-profit organization created \"to help promote the equine industry in eastern North Carolina.\" Five hundred horses are registered to compete in this year's events. Entrants come from twenty states, including every state from New York and New Mexico. The center is one of only three of its kind in North Carolina.

The North Carolina Estuarium, located in Washington in Beaufort County, opened on January 20, 1998 with exhibits presenting ecosystem, history, fish and wildlife, and human interaction with the Albemarle-Pamlico estuarine system. It is the state's largest system and covers all or part of thirty-six counties.
