Honeybees pollinate $15 billion dollars of crops in the United States annually. Featured bee keepers in this article include Cole's Farm in Onslow County, Wayne Rose in Washington County and Jim Hartman in Linden. All agree that the biggest threat o bees are varroa mites.

Begun in 2016, the Sankofa Farms Agricultural Academy instructs African American males 11-17, the importance of connecting with regenerative farming. Learning beekeeping is an introductory activity for the students.
