The Hammock House in Beaufort was built around 1709 and was named for the rise of land it sits on. The house passed through thirty-three owners before it was purchased in 1995 by Giles and Betty Cloutier. Put together by the Marine Fisheries Commission, Coastal Resources Commission, and Environmental Management Commission have developed the Coastal Habitat Protection Plan for North Carolina in order to prevent further coastal change and risk.
