It’s swing counties like Rutherford County that will make the difference in this year’s presidential election. Presidential candidate Michael Dukakis has failed to articulate the issues that have historically drawn people to the Democratic Party. Now, many Democrats are voting for Republican candidate George Bush.

The Durham Arts Center largely runs on corporate donations, and some people feel that the money is overlooking artists’ needs and desires. As long as the local arts scene is controlled from the top down, the needs of the serious artist are confused with the need to feign culture.

In ten years of official play, the UNC women’s soccer team has never lost a game on its home field at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Coach Anson Dorrance teaches female athletes to develop psychological skills and a tough work ethic. The aggressiveness Dorrance demands on the field is complemented by camaraderie and respect within the team.
