Abstract:
The Greenville Cotton Mills was first conceived of and organized in May 1900 and received their charter in 1913. A $150,000 factory was constructed in 1914 at the intersection of Dickinson Ave. and Hooker Road. The mill was expanded and doubled in capacity in 1920 and provided numerous jobs to locals. After World War II, the mill was idle and was leased to “American Lady, Inc.” making ladies undergarments. In 1950, the Cotton Mill Hill Park was dedicated by Heber B. Tripp. Also in 1950 the factory was leased to a company making synthetic blanket and carpet yarns. In 1960, the factory was bought by Fieldcrest Mills, Inc.
