"Retired packaging executive Ed Fitts and his wife, Deb, lead a renaissance of a Halifax County hamlet." The couple have already given generously to projects at North Carolina State University. An outcome of the 2020 Pandemic has meant more people living year-long in the nearby Lake Gaston recreational area. The Fitts's have aided Littleton in growing the downtown area and capitalizing on the increased traffic connnected to Lake Gaston. One of their premiere projects involves the renovation of the old Littleton High School campus.

Statesville has developed a reputation as the hot-air balloon capitol of the East. The Carolina BalloonFest has been going on in Iredell County for the past 45 years and is the second largest of its kind in the country. Over the past several years, the festival has gnerated $787,000 for area non-profits.
