This article focusses on the career narrative of Chip Mahan, who in the 1990s launched the nation's first online only bank in Atlanta.. Mahan is Chairman and CEO of Live Oak Banking Company in Wilmington north Carolina. Liv Oak opened in 2008 as an SBA-only bank, state chartered with a national online-lending platform.
