Approximately nine months ago the owner of the Pinehurst Resort failed to meet obligations in a $73 million loan agreement, and an eight-bank consortium took over the property. The new owners plan to restore the resort to its former elegance through a new management team, an infusion of capital, improved maintenance programs, and renew attention to the elegant details that once characterized the hotel.

L. Vincent Lowe, Jr. is president of Branch Banking and Trust Company. He assumed the presidency in February 1982 just a few days after the sudden death of Thorne Gregory, who had headed the bank for a number of years. BB&T is North Carolina's oldest and sixth-largest bank.

Philip Lance founded his company in his Charlotte home in 1913 when he got stuck with 500 pounds of raw peanuts. He roasted and sold them on the city streets. From that beginning the company grew into the now famous snack food manufacturer it is today - Lance, Inc. In 1981, the company had net sales of over $280.4 million in thirty-five states.
