A librarian who started the first children’s TV show in North Carolina also reflects history on her bookshelves. A college professor inspired Elinor Hawkins to start collecting A Christmas Carol. Seven decades later, a Braille and 1906 version are among her 1,000 plus copies.

Abstract:
"60 years ago, Andy Griffith introduced the world to his hometown." Mount Airy, North Carolina is the basis for the fictional town of Mayberry in the popular 1960s television show. Many aspects of the show have likewise influenced Mount Airy which continues to gain as a fan and tourism draw.
