Abstract:
Like many small towns in North Carolina, Shelby, located in Cleveland County, was a thriving mill town until the 1990s. What makes Shelby different, at least according to many current and former residents, is that the town's leaders immediately identified avenues for revitalization. Funding partnerships between private citizens and the local government have preserved old buildings, conserved the town's heritage, and developed museums like the Earl Scruggs Center.

For Shelby, North Carolina, the key to attracting industries such as Pittsburgh Plate Glass has been the local community and chamber of commerce. Along with the plate class manufacturer, Shelby attracted 6 new industries to the region, employing over 1370 people.

Abstract:
With the decline of the house museums that were once popular around the country, PNC must decide the fates of two bequeathed houses, El Nido and the Banker’s House. Unable to sell the properties due to the wishes of the deceased, PNC has decided to make the Banker’s House their southwest regional office, and to develop a resident curatorship for El Nido. These examples have led to PNC creating conditions of acceptance for large gifts.
