The annual North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association held in Fall 2017 in the Sandhills Game Land. It presents an opportunity to showcase trained hunting dogs in a myriad of skills, from duck retrieval and search to desire to work. Author Mike Zlotnicki participated with his dog Annie and discusses the lessons that he learned along the way.

Pinehurst in the Sandhills was established in the late 1890s. Many of the early resorts are gone, either through fires or progress; new ones have emerged, and the city thrives and services in the twenty-first century. Wright discusses the history of the first hundred years.

With new technology becoming more easily accessible and cost-effective, the museum has begun incorporating different techniques to study animals in the wild. The Southern Hognose snake in Sandhills and the Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers in the Appalachian mountain range are two species that have been studied using technological advancements. These approaches have already led to new observations regarding these species.

The Game Lands Use Permit entitles a holder to hunt, trap, fish, train dogs, or participate in field trials on any of the game lands designated in North Carolina. The Sandhills Game Land is a popular location for deer and dove hunting, and offers an early season for bow hunters.
