Wimpies Steam Bar and Grill has undergone renovations and introduced a new seasonal schedule for its reopening. The changes include a roving oyster shucker, new bar area, patio area, and paved parking lot. New items have also been added to the menu to compliment old favorites. Wimpies Steam Bar and Grill has been serving food to Winterville for more than 20 years.

North Carolina pit master Sam Jones is breathing new fire into the old-school smokehouse. The grandson of Pete Jones, founder of the Skylight Inn barbecue restaurant in Ayden, opens a new restaurant in Greenville with an expanded menu.

Gregg and Kim Green’s mission statement for their store is “BE loose and have FUN! Bake phenomenal bread. Run fast to serve others& give generously.” Connecting non-profits with the local community is a signature element of their business. Only serving the freshest products, the couple donates their two-day old bread to Hope Glory Ministries which gets it distributed to shelters across the county.

Established in 1980, the Marathon is largely known for its Greek dishes. However, the restaurant currently owned by Perry Kachroo has kept up with food trends of the times by including Indian items on its menu. Collectively, this explains its place as what the author described as an institution in the community.

Starlight Café in Greenville serves high quality food and supports the farm to table concept. Most of the food served at Starlight Café is grown and raised at Starlight Farm and Gardens while additional food comes from nearby towns such a La Grange, Goldsboro, and Snow Hill.

Wilson began bartending at Christy's Euro Pub in 2007. Two years later at age 26, she bought Christy's. She and her husband Jacob have since begun other businesses in downtown Greenville, including Dickinson Avenue Public House in 2015, Jarvis Street Bottle Shop in 2016 and in November 2021 Side Bar.

Perhaps worthy of making the annals of local restaurant history was one frequented by Pitt County locals and East Carolina University students. Among its county charms were home cooked food and iced tea that may be worth writing home about.
