"A homegrown restaurant chain revives under a new proprietor." A quarter of a million dollars was spent in 2023 upgrading the Charlotte based Hickory Tavern restaurant chain with its 20 locations in North and South Carolina. CEO Mark Eason has been leading the charge to resurrect the chain. The business was originally founded in Hickory in 1997. A new menu was rolled out in August.

Carrie Hegnauer opened City Kitch in 2013 as a shared kitchen near UNC Charlotte. In 2020, City Kitch partnered with Charlotte investor Todd Collins and his business Red Hill Ventures.

The business, dating back to 1926, was originally owned by the Green family. Robert Green died in 1945 His daughter-in-law Mary eventfully took over. Her popularity was large at the time she announced plans to sell the business in 1974. Phillip Kanopolis and his family became the second owners.

Traditional fish camps, which opened on Thursdays when mill workers got paid, have long been treasured hereabouts, serving coastal specialties far from the coast. Open Kitchen Restaurant in Charlotte, owned by Christina Skiouris and her brother, Dean Kokenes, began in 1952 as a curb-side hamburger joint run by her uncle, Speros Kokenes. Her father, Steve Kokenes, joined the business in 1954, introducing the first pizza pie to Charlotte. The restaurant was groundbreaking for serving some of the city’s first international fare and continues to offer traditional Italian dishes.

Common Market is a popular restaurant and marketplace in Charlotte. The original location opened in the Plaza Midwood neighborhood in 2002 and another opened in South End in 2009. Sadly, the South End location closed in July 2017, but co-owners Blake Barnes, Chuck Barger, and Graham Worth have found a new location just 1,153 paces from the old spot.
