Abstract:
American serviceman Shepard wrote of his experience while stationed in Germany. He was a military man stationed in Berlin following World War II. His remarks focus on living conditions in the American Zone of Occupation, specifically, German citizens' dismal living conditions following the war including desperate attempts to track down food and clearing of any living plants to burn for warmth.

Abstract:
Miss Ruby Daniels was a Baptist missionary in Budapest during World War II. She was sent to Hungary in 1935 and remained there until 1942, not including a furlough in 1939. Miss Daniels was in charge of a girl's school and remained as long as possible until German troops marched through the city streets. Her return journey was as harrowing as her time in war-torn Europe; she sailed with 900 other passengers including four missionaries and hundreds of Jewish refugees aboard Serpa Pinto. The Portuguese ship arrived in Florida on February 16 after making a treacherous trip across the Atlantic with submarine attacks imminent.
