Abstract:

Mr. and Mrs. Shuford were in charge of the National Orphans Home of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics. The institution was located in Lexington and was comprised of 318 acre campus and farmland. Enrollment was 250 in 1937 and children were taught importance of citizenship.
