Abstract:
Montgomery County is located at the exact center of North Carolina. Five years ago the county's economy had taken a downturn with the decline of the textile industry and the loss of two long-standing manufacturers. Still, several mainstays in manufacturing (Capel Rugs), lumber (Jordan Lumber and Supply, Inc.), and banking (Fidelity Bank) remain strong. Coulthard discusses how industry, tourism, high-end housing, and strong ties with Montgomery Community College are helping lead the way to an improving county economy.
