Abstract:
Miss Ruby Daniels was a Baptist missionary in Budapest during World War II. She was sent to Hungary in 1935 and remained there until 1942, not including a furlough in 1939. Miss Daniels was in charge of a girl's school and remained as long as possible until German troops marched through the city streets. Her return journey was as harrowing as her time in war-torn Europe; she sailed with 900 other passengers including four missionaries and hundreds of Jewish refugees aboard Serpa Pinto. The Portuguese ship arrived in Florida on February 16 after making a treacherous trip across the Atlantic with submarine attacks imminent.
