The Research Triangle Park began in 1958 as an insurance policy for the future of North Carolina’s economy, and led to development of a substantial microelectronics industry. The Microelectronics Center of North Carolina, which opened in 1983, will develop and operate facilities and equipment, and make them available to partnering institutions to expand microelectronics education and research.
